Smartphones are indispensable. The daily average use in the Netherlands is currently 2 hours and 15 minutes per person per day. In theory, that means almost 34 (!) full days a year behind the mobile phone. These figures may be shockingly high, but the telephone has simply become an indispensable part of our lives. We are busy calling, texting, emailing and social media all day long. A large part are also work-related matters. Anyway; Whether you use a smartphone for work or recreational use: a good mobile is essential.
Smartphones are becoming more and more advanced. However, this has a downside: the price. The price of the most recent iPhone 12 (64 GB) is now around €900 for a separate device. And that is the entry-level version... the prices for the latest iPhones, Samsungs and other (premium) brands continue to rise every year.
Fortunately, there are exceptions. Because despite the fact that prices are now skyrocketing, fortunately there are also options for a cheaper price. We list our personal favorite (work) phones, for under €250. The devices were all released in 2020 and the prices are as of December 28, 2020.
We start the list with the top seller in the budget segment: the Xiaomi Redmi 9. 10 years after its founding, the Chinese brand is making a real comeback in the smartphone world. Xiaomi easily makes the competitor's performance in this price range pale. The Redmi can be purchased for less than €160. The Redmi 9 Pro, with better specifications, can be purchased from €230.
The Redmi 9 is a pretty fast smartphone with a nice design, a strong battery that can last two days, a large screen and (unique in its class) 4 extensive cameras. Software-wise, the Redmi 9 is not great, but for this price there is nothing to complain about. Absolute bargain!

It may happen that you receive an important phone call for/from work during a car ride. There is nothing more annoying than not being available or having to stop along the road to make a phone call. We stick with the Chinese brand. The Poco X3 NF (€210) is the fastest budget phone of the moment. The processor ensures fast control of the device and execution of programs. With its 120 Hz refresh rate, the screen is at the same level as the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra (price range: around €1200). Finally, the battery. The battery life of 2 days is great and the device supports fast charging. Great features for a phone in this price segment! Like the Redmi 9, the software policy isn't great. Another point is the post-processing of the camera.

The battery is not very large, so the battery runs out quickly. A separate device is already available for €214.

The Moto G8 is one of the best phones when it comes to battery life. It contains a huge 5000 mAh battery. This results in infinite use, without having to charge. The LCD screen is large and has a high resolution with a sharp display of 1080 x 2300 pixels. The disadvantage is that the cameras do not perform well in the dark and the Moto G8 charges slowly. Nevertheless, it is a more than excellent phone in its price range. The Moto G8 Power can be purchased for €229.

During the cold winter days it is nice to wear gloves, but this does make it difficult to use the phone. With the R2B Touchscreen gloves, your hands stay warm and you can continue to use the phone because of special fingertips on the glove.
The Huawei P30 Lite (€182) is the smaller version of the normal P30 (€449) and the P30 Pro (€494). The slim design makes this phone look very premium. The cameras are excellent, especially for this price range. The battery life could be better and for really heavy work (such as playing games) there are better options on the market. Less demanding users are very well off with this phone.

The Huawei is not only suitable for work, but, thanks to the excellent camera, also suitable for the (novice) social media star. Ideal if you have a small (child) star bent but you don't want to spend too much money on an expensive smartphone. By using the great camera and the R2B ring light , you have all the tools for a viral video.
Ultimately the choice is a matter of taste. It can be concluded that there are plenty of good quality phones on the market for a reasonable price. Regardless of which smartphone you choose, R2B offers several universal accessories suitable for every smartphone.
